The Pic from my first post

Wondering where the pic of my first ever post came from?

It's from the video of Mad World by Gary Jules. The song is a cover of the the same title by "Tears for Fears" which was a very prominent band in the 80's, with their International hits "Shout" and "Everybody wants to rule".

The song is slower version made for the soundtrack of the cerebral hit "Donnie Darko".
Mad World has gained a resurgence recently after Adam Lambert sang it on American Idol and received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell.

In Forced Hibernation

Hello everyone,
I had started this blog with the intention of posting my thoughts and sharing my passions, likes and dislikes. But my career is at present going like Capt. Jack Sparrow's compass, directionless, but to somewhere.I have reached the point of desperation after numerous failed attempts and experiments to rejuvenate a static career to desired levels.
Hoping to get back soon into active netduty in a few months..till then..do take some time to kick someone's ass...

Tiger Woods - When you are High, there's only one place left to go- DOWN !!

Well, the Tiger Woods issue had been out a long time ago and i know this is blog is a bit post mature, i couldn't help taking a snub at him after I stumbled upon this little piece on the net..

Man, with a 750 Million $ divorce settlement he just got royally screwed i guess. But I think that humongous amount will still not stop people from committing adultery. But the funny thing is how Tiger expected to get away being involved with so many mistresses. Someone was bound to blow the whistle.

Nazia Hassan : A forgotten era in South Asian music

One lazy day, sitting and reminiscing childhood memories, i started remembering the songs to which i used to have fun in those days
I was born in the early 80's in the Gulf and western music was quite common .It was the era of disco; the era of Boney M's, Abba , Donna Summer. Although pure disco was slowly dying , the aforementioned artists were still popular and pop had just begun to become dominant. It was the time when the King and Queen of Pop , Michael Jackson and Madonna came into prominence to rule the music scene from there on.
But Bollywood was still in the disco mood, with Bappi Lahiri and R.D Burman ruling the scene . Bappi was the king of Disco and nobody can forget his " I am a Disco Dancer" which sprung Mithun Chakraborthy to fame as India's answer to John Travolta. People who sang for him, Usha Uthup, Sharon Prabhakar, Alisha Chinoy were synonymous with the female vocals in disco and the late legendary Kishore Kumar had some memorable hits with him. The ever versatile R.D Burman also had some hits in the disco genre most of them with the two legends Kishore Kumar and his wife, Asha Bhonsle
And this brings me to the brief period in early 80's , where three people collaborated to bring out hits at that time which were in my view far superior to the composed by the ones which had come at the time , some of them becoming evergreen hits. Those three people were music composer, Biddu and the singer siblings from Pakistan Nazia And Zoheb Hassan

Biddu and the Hassan Siblings were based in the UK. Biddu had been known internationally for lifting the careers of many disco singers like Carl Douglas, Tina Charles ,etc. and was also known for the composition of "Kung Fu Fighting" which is still an evergreen song in the dance and club scene. When Actor-Producer Feroz Khan approached Biddu to score the music for his film "Qurbani" , he recommended the Hassan siblings who were introduced to him by a friend. What happened there after is history, with the songs of the film becoming huge hits. Nazia was the main singer in most of the songs. Nobody can forget the sexy Zeenat Aman crooning seductively to "Aap Jaisa Koi" and "Laila O laila"

The siblings later did a pop album with Biddu called Disco Deewane. The album not only laid the foundation for the Indian Pop Scene but become a Mega hit not only in India and Pakistan but Brazil, Russia, Middle east and other parts of South Asia

The trio then joined hands for a movie called "Star" and the recordings were released as soundtrack under the movie's name and elsewhere as an album called " Boom Boom". The movie was huge box office failure but the soundtrack became equally popular as Disco Deewane , with songs called "Boom Boom", "Koi Nahin" , "Star" and "Oiee Oiee" becoming chart toppers. The album also had some singles from Zoheb Hassan which became equally popular as Nazia's. The success also made them the first South Asian group to be signed an International Music Label, which was EMI music.
Of the siblings ,Nazia Hassan became more famous not only because of her voice but also because of her beauty and she was known to be a lady with a heart of gold. The duo become to be known for their youth, innocence, exuberance and energy which connected with the youth of that time. They later churned a few more albums until Nazia got married and quietly retired to family life .Zoheb started concentrating more on his family business. Nazia's life was later filled with tragedies, her marriage ended in a divorce and she was later diagnosed with Lung Cancer. At the age of 35 in 2000 she succumbed to it leaving behind a legacy. Zoheb later released a an album in her sister's memory and started a charity in her name to help youth in various fields.Nazia is still considered a youth icon in Pakistan. Biddu tried to relive the old hits by brings out some remixes of the hits of Boom Boom and Disco Deewane which did rekindle those old days buit for a brief time. It's hard to see or hear those songs on radio or TV except for "Aap Jaisa Koi" and "Lailo", maybe because they did not hold any clout in Indian Music

My childhood memories are filled more with their music than any other bollywood songs of that time. Particularly because my folks were big fans of them. I used to watch their songs regularily particularly of the movie "Star" which had been recorded on VHS at that time. And the song "Koi Nahin " was one of my favourites. Her voice was soothing, lively and had a silken flow which made you not just calm, but happy also.As years passed and times went by with VHS becoming out of the scene, I had almost forgotten this song but it occassionally played in mind on nostalgic days. But now with the advent of information at your fingertips (as Amitabh Bachchan said in the movie Paa- "google se bachke kahan jaoge!!") I was able to learn more about this woman who was a gem in all aspects. And what more, a couple of days back,I was able to relive my nostalgia when found the song Koi Nahin on youtube which i will be posting here for you to enjoy. It's sad there is no such singer of her caliber that could connect with the youth nowadays. I guess God creates such gems in just one piece.

(Psssst..coming to the video...probably I didn't notice it when i was 3-5 year old, but Rati Agnihotri is HOT !!)
